Objective:  System study for proposed HEP (4 x 111 MW)

Duration:  2 months

Study:

Comprehensive system studies were carried out for checking system adequacy and security on the proposed 4 x 111 MW HEP. The ability of the electrical system to supply the aggregate electrical demand & energy requirement, taking into account scheduled & unscheduled outages of the system elements, was checked. We also checked the ability of the electric system to withstand sudden disturbances due to any faults or any other reasons. Disturbances like sudden load rejections & ‘Single line to Ground’ faults were simulated for evaluating the parameters of Generators.

Approach:

Detailed modelling of the electrical network with proper load details was made available using our power system analysis software. Load flow studies were performed for evaluating the system voltage conditions at different buses in the network and checking the adequacy of the transmission lines, which were planned for power evacuation.

Over-voltage study was conducted for evaluating the system voltage conditions at different buses in the network to determine the requirement of reactors in transmission lines and pre-insertion resistor for circuit breakers etc. Short circuit analysis was performed on selected buses as mentioned in the detailed scope of work.

Stability models of the equipment (governors, exciters and system stabilizers) were prepared as per the technical data received. We also performed a stability analysis to determine the suitable values of inertia constant for synchronous machine & its various parameters, field voltage ceiling, AVR gain and time constant for the excitation system. A detailed report on various system studies was submitted.

Conclusion:

Techlabs’ detailed report contained fault levels at various buses and load flows in case of contingencies. The report also included BIL calculation for various equipments, generators, exciters, turbines, stabilisers system parameters with ranges to maintain system stability in case of any system disturbance.
