Objective:  Network Optimisation and Distribution Automation studies for Complete Distribution System of Delhi, Mumbai and New Mumbai areas

Duration:  3 months

Study:

With the emphasis to enhance the performance of the distribution network, the client wanted to analyse the existing distribution network and optimise it such that it could cater to future load with high reliability and decreased losses. We did such a study with analysing the existing system condition and planning the optimal network by using network analysis tool (CYMDIST). This work included Network modelling (SLDs), As-Is Analysis (Analysis of existing system) and Network Planning.

Approach:

This study has been specified as being a “Network Optimisation” study. It has been extended into a complete network planning study, providing long-term consistency and including an economic and financial analysis.

The optimisation aspect appeared particularly in the following aspects:

  • The standardization level (ratings of cables and transformers mainly)
  • Planning of contingent network
  • Comparison of strategies
  • The Development Level of each strategies: investments are proposed only when they proved to be necessary
  • The Method Level: the Target Network method ensures that only investments that are useful in the long term are proposed.

Conclusion:

In terms of optimisation, the study could be prolonged district by district, and selecting the strategies for each district depending on the comparison criteria. In terms of strategy and planning the existing system for enhancing its performance, we proposed a Greenfield network which improved system reliability and the designing of an HVDS system for controlling theft. A "Planning existing system" was adopted because of its cost-efficiency
