Client: A Prominent Electric Utility in UP
Objective: Optimal power evacuation plan for an upcoming 3740 MW project
This study was aimed at finding out the optimum injecting points into the grid for an upcoming power plant located in UP. The utility was setting up approximately 3500 MW of generation plant for feeding power to Delhi region and some part of UP through the northern grid.
Duration: 25 days
Study: We modelled the complete northern grid, which spanned over the states of Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, etc., and also the generating plants located in these regions.
The following studies were conducted:
Normal system loading conditions
This study was done to find out the injecting points as we needed to know the existing system conditions, line loading capability, reserve capacity etc.
Contingency analysis Contingency studies were performed for finding the credible transmission line outages with a view to ensure system security.
Short circuit level For the available injecting points, the system as well as grid fault level had to be justified. A separate region network was modelled to find out the optimum points for power injection considering all the above situations.
Approach:
The different phases of study were carried out taking into consideration the following points
- Planning for generation voltage level
- Planning for transmission voltage level
- Optimum locations for injecting power in northern grid
- Appropriate fault level at various voltage level i.e., 220KV, 400KV etc.
- Contingency criteria at various voltage levels for transmission lines
Conclusion:
Based upon the above system studies, we gave our recommendations in the form of different case studies that include approximately 14 nodal points power injecting points, which should prove to be a guideline to implement it in different phases.
